Educational Technology Fall Webinar Series Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) faces significant challenges in its education sector, such as restricted access to quality learning, insufficient infrastructure, and a lack of qualified teachers and educators. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a promising opportunity to tackle these issues and transform education across the region. This proposal aims to explore how AI can be applied in schooling within SSA, identify the main obstacles to its adoption, formulate strategies for effective implementation, and examine ethical implications. Leveraging AI can help SSA nations improve learning outcomes, enhance teacher capabilities, and promote more equitable and inclusive educational systems. Taking into account available data from international organizations (UNESCO, OECD, UNICEF, and World Bank, for instance), non-governmental organizations (Gates Foundation, for example), and a review of literature, this proposal provides a framework for research and development efforts to harness the transformative potential of AI for education in SSA
